Lindelof sparks United career

Image
There are often turning points, single moments in a match, when fans look back and think ‘that kickstarted his career’. The Old Trafford faithful possibly witnessed that exact moment on Saturday when Victor Lindelof arrived – in more ways than one – with a crunching, but fair, challenge on Anthony Knockaert which seemed to help inspire the Reds to defeat Brighton.

Mourinho's Tough Love Works For Martial

Image
Manchester United forward Anthony Martial believes Jose Mourinho’s tough love approach to man-management has fuelled his excellent contributions on the pitch this season. The 21-year-old former AS Monaco star has impressed supporters as both a starter and substitute, scoring six goals and tallying as many assists from his 16 appearances in all competitions so far. Martial’s admirable form with United led to him being recalled to the France squad by international boss Didier Deschamps earlier this month and, on Tuesday night, he claimed another assist when setting up Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette during a 2-2 draw with world champions Germany in Cologne. Impressively, a statistic emerged afterwards that claims Anthony has been involved in a goal every 58 minutes for both club and country this season, which highlights his creative capabilities at present. It also represents the player's more clinical performances in 2017/18 following the challenges of last season, ...

Lukaku Becomes Belgium's All Time Scorer

Image
Romelu Lukaku added to his double against Mexico to secure a win over Japan and become Belgium's all-time record . Romelu Lukaku became Belgium's outright record scorer with the only goal in an uninspired 1-0 friendly win over Japan in Bruges. The Manchester United striker had pulled level with Bernard Voorhoof and Paul Van Himst on 30 goals after his double in Friday's pulsating 3-3 draw with Mexico. And he took his tally to 31 with 18 minutes remaining against Japan on Tuesday, heading in from almost on the line after a superb run and cross from Nacer Chadli. Before his historic goal, it had been a frustrating night for the 24-year-old, who was comfortably shackled by a stubborn Japan defence. Belgium boss Roberto Martinez will be pleased with his side's improved defensive display, but is likely to be concerned by the struggles of his star-studded attack against a side that had conceded six goals in their last two games against Haiti and BrazilBelgium car...

Martial wins GOTM prize

Image
Anthony Martial has followed up his Player of the Month prize for October by also scooping the best goal accolade. The France international provided an undoubted highlight of the month when latching onto Romelu Lukaku's flick-on to beat Hugo Lloris with his left foot and settle a tight encounter with Tottenham Hotspur at  Old Trafford . The Premier League winner polled 35 per cent of the vote to beat off competition from second-placed Jesse Lingard, whose header at Swansea City in the Carabao Cup proved popular. Joshua Bohui's fine solo effort in the UEFA Youth League draw against Benfica finished in third spot. Martial becomes the third player to pick up the award this season, following Paul Pogba (for his strike at Swansea City) and Antonio Valencia (for his screamer against Everton).

International Reds Round-up

Image
Manchester United  defenders Victor Lindelof and Matteo Darmian are set to go head to head for their countries when Sweden and Italy meet in the play-offs for the World Cup finals in Russia. The first leg on Friday sees Lindelof’s Sweden welcome the Azzurri to the Friends Arena in Stockholm, scene of the Reds' Europa League triumph last May. Darmian’s Italy will then host the return fixture at the San Siro on Monday with both ties starting at 19:45 GMT. United centre-back Eric Bailly is suspended for Ivory Coast’s World Cup qualification match against Morocco, which will decide whether the African Cup of Nations champions top Group E to reach their fourth successive World Cup. Meanwhile, in two of the glamour friendlies scheduled to be played during the international break, Wembley will be the scene for serial World Cup winners Germany and Brazil to take on England. Four Reds have been included in Gareth Southgate’s squad, including Ashley Young, who has not played for...

Jose's plans for the break

Image
Jose Mourinho believes the international break will be a key period for a number of his injured Manchester United players to work towards regaining full fitness. The Reds have been without Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcos Rojo, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini, who have all been sidelined for a number of weeks. Fellaini had a positive impact on his return to action as a substitute against Chelsea on Sunday, with Mourinho Praising The Belgian Afterwards  for making himself available for selection, having only trained with the team the day before the game. The boss is hopeful the players can use the next two weeks before our next game, against Newcastle United in the Premier League at Old Trafford, on Saturday 18 November to continue to work on the training ground to edge closer to a comeback. “We have the group of players which are the ones that we hope will recover as soon as possible,” Mourinho told MUTV after the defeat at stamford bridge . “They have to wo...

Jose: Fellaini was amazing

Image
Jose Mourinho heaped praise on the "amazing" Marouane Fellaini for his determination and courage to play for Manchester United in Sunday's big match at Chelsea, despite not being fully fit. The midfielder had not featured for the Reds since the victory over Crystal Palace at the end of September, after picking up an injury while on international duty for Belgium. Mourinho revealed that Fellaini only returned to full training on Saturday and was named on the bench for Sunday's defeat at Chelsea. With United trailing at Stamford Bridge, the Belgian was introduced just after the hour-mark and he almost snatched a late leveller for the Reds when his shot was brilliantly saved by his international team-mate Thibaut Courtois.

Report: Chelsea 1 United 0

Premier League | Stamford Bridge | Attendance: 41,615 | Scorer: Morata 55 Manchester United’s Stamford Bridge frustrations continued as Alvaro Morata’s second-half header sealed a 1-0 victory for Chelsea. The Blues’ frontman struck the killer blow on 55 minutes as he rose unmarked to head home following a solid period of pressure from the hosts. United had some promising moments in the first half, but the long run of no wins at the Bridge – which now stretches to five years – carried on for the Reds.

Martial Out To Build On Big Start

Image
Anthony Martial says he hopes to score even more goals for Manchester United between now and the end of the season after an excellent start to the campaign. The Frenchman was voted October's star man by fans on Twitter, the second successive month he has won the Player of the Month award. His impressive form has also led to a recall to the France squad for their upcoming friendlies against Wales and Germany. Having scored seven times already this term, the forward is only one goal away from equalling his tally for last season. Although he's happy with how he's performing, both when starting and coming off the bench, Martial feels he still has another level to reach so he can have an even greater impact for the team. Speaking ahead of Sunday's Premier League trip to Chelsea, he told MUTV : "At the moment, I’m happy, even if I could have done more, scored more goals and made more decisive passes. But I’m happy. "I think the difference is that last ye...
